Advanced Placement
Hudson offers Advanced Placement (AP) courses in senior-level Math, English, Business and Science course areas for Grade 11/12 students. AP courses are offered in addition to Hudson’s regular university / college preparatory courses.
AP course guidelines and outlines are provided by the Advanced Placement Program of the College Board. AP courses give students an opportunity to take university-level courses and exams while still in high school, providing opportunities to enhance students’ confidence while stimulating and challenging their academic interests. Consistently, University and College faculty report that AP students are better prepared for post-secondary academic work.
Hudson students take an AP course in conjunction with their regular high school courses and commit additional time to the necessary AP workload. Students write AP exams either in May or June each school year. Each July, AP exam results are reported to the student candidates, Hudson College, and designated universities. Although final AP exam results do not affect admission to university, once registered, many universities in Canada, and most in the United States, grant Transfer Credits based on successful AP results.
Hudson students wishing to take an AP course need to register with the Principal and subject-teacher of the pre-requisite course before commencing an AP course at Hudson. Applicant students must also have the recommendation of the teacher of the previously completed pre-requisite course in order to successfully register for an AP course.
