A Message from our Head of Guidance
To the Class of 2025,
As your Guidance Counsellor, I’ve had the privilege of walking alongside you for the past three years. As we celebrated Graduation together (a day some of you guys believed would never arrive), I was filled with an immense sense of reassurance and hope—feelings that have eluded me in recent times. Read any headline, scroll through endless news updates...the world is not a safe place for many. A friend asked me recently how I maintain my optimism. I believe a huge part of it is due to working in education. My days are devoted to supporting young people and witnessing ALL of the growth that can happen in merely a few years. I’ve laughed with quite a few of you as we reminisced about conversations we had in my office in Grade 10. And even as you all fumbled through being 15 years old, I got the sense that your cohort was confident and curious and had oh-so-much personality.
As a cohort of 45 students, you all created a reputation, whether you meant to or not. One that left Hudson staff repeating the same sentiment throughout the year, “I will miss this graduating class.” Hudson’s Class of 2025 knew how to work together, yet never forgot who you were as individuals. Your ability to rise, to lead, to question, and to uplift others has been a gift to Hudson’s community. Your desire for improvement never stopped at yourselves– you naturally took in the perspective of other students/grades and continually asked, “How can we make things better for you?” (thinking about this year’s pep rally and June Day still brings a smile to my face).
This goes without saying, but it doesn't hurt to repeat—none of your high school years were without challenges. There were moments of uncertainty, late nights of studying, unbearable decisions, and unexpected detours. But you faced every obstacle with resilience and a sense of purpose. And in the often quiet and unseen moments, your character was forged.
As you step into the next chapter, I encourage you to carry forward the lessons learned not only from your successes but from the setbacks. University will bring new opportunities, new challenges, and new perspectives. Embrace them all. Keep asking questions. Pursue what matters to you. And never forget the strength of the community you came from.
My final piece of advice: Stay grounded in who you are, but remain open to more. The world will benefit from your leadership, your heart, and your vision. It is why I left Graduation with that overwhelming feeling of hopefulness. You don’t need to solve all the world’s problems. But isn’t it a wonderful thought that maybe our world will look different/better in YOUR very capable hands?
You are the reason why I can continue being an optimist.
All my best and then some,
Ms. Streff

Sarah (’25) thrived academically while serving as Student Council President and Lead Ambassador, so it’s no surprise that she’s ready for the rigours of Wilfrid Laurier’s Business/Math double degree.
Brandon (’25) found challenge with accelerated Math and stepped outside his comfort zone with visual arts and volleyball. Now, he’s excited to embrace every kind of change at Huron University.
